My brief hiatus from the pages of Beauty and the Dirt has come to an end and I am overjoyed to announce the birth of Miss Lola Bette Shapiro who entered this world on April 29th. Trouble is, Lola’s petite 7lb 13oz debut has left me with a larger, far less joyous and most un-cute bundle, AKA the 30 pounds I now have to lose. What’s more, my newfound status as “mother of two” has given me a great desire to take care of myself and restore my sense of Hannah. (Of course, the plethora of South-Florida hot bods surrounding me help keep my resolution in check and remind me of just how dumpy I am in my post-partum state.)
So here I stand, determined to be thin once more and I will rest at nothing in my quest to achieve outer beauty. But before I resort to lipo, tummy tucks and boob jobs, I am willing to look into the other tricks of the trade I have to hand.
No sooner had I committed myself to my beautifying mission, I was invited over to visit Krystina Ta, owner of Spataneous (www.spataneousonline.com) and self-titled Queen of Eyebrows—South Florida’s answer to brow guru Anastasia. But she doesn’t rest there. She's also the expert on current trends including eyelash extensions and permanent make-up. Ta offers everything here at Spataneous, from nail treatments to spray tanning, and waxing to massage. Not to mention, the prices are reasonable.
Ta’s new salon should be a wakeup call to the other nail salons and day spas here in South Florida, where service is far from the name of the game. Upon walking in to Spataneous you instantly feel like you are in for a treat as you are greeted with a smile, offered a cup of tea or a glass of wine and escorted to your treatment of choice.
Since the name of my game is to not only beautify but also make myself look slimmer whilst I lose poundage, I opted for an eyebrow shaping (perhaps it would give the impression of a slimmer face) and a spray tan (we all know the slimming optical illusion of a bronzed glow).
When I get my eyebrows shaped, it always amazes me that such a small procedure can make such a difference to the appearance of your face. I’m not sure that a good brow job makes me look thinner but it does make me feel prettier and that’s no mean feat in post-partum land. Ta certainly knows what she is doing in this arena and strives to give her customer the best shape for her face, which she no doubt achieved in this instance.
Then, onto the spray tan. Ta employs a unique "green” airbrush tanning product that is 100% organic, made with all natural materials and is FDA-approved. I was unbelievably impressed with the results and though she didn’t have the equipment to give me a fake six-pack, I left the salon feeling bronzed, beautiful, and as though I had faked a five-pound weight loss. (Hurrah!)
I now feel sufficiently armed to take on that thirty in style.
Until next time,
Hannah xo
